Lazy Sunday (part 2)
Actually a Sunday this time. :)
Having brunch in Fujimama's right now. I'm typing away on my new HTC Shift which arrive late last week.
The keyboard is nice, but will take a little getting used to. Still I can type faster already that using anything smaller that I have tried to date.
Really happy to get ecto working on it. This makes mobile blogging a breeze and the addition of spelling check is critical.
Having a nice, leisurely morning so far, and will do a bit of shopping later. Kind of flipping between crazy busy and oddly quiet lately. I feel that my life right now is in some weird mode and I have no idea how long it will last.
Well, more to come...

Lazy Sunday, errr Saturday?
Was downtown today in Ginza, was nice just walking around.
Stopped by the Apple store to check out the Macbook Air. It's certainly a pretty peice of kit. Might have to pick up one of those... Eventually.
Stopped by Starbucks. Didn't know that the Matsuyadori Starbucks was the first one in Japan. Been there a bunch of times, but somehow I like the feeling of history.
Also saw these ccats sitting on top of a sign. Not sure what it was about, but lots of people gathered around to snap cellphone pics.

As a matter of fact, I shot this with my new Nokia E90. (actually I moblogged this wholeentry with it) this is my first entry with my new mobile platform. Was actually quiite easy (but going to need to bump up my data plan. More to come on this later.
Been a tought year so far. Lot's of uncertainty, could be a bit more hope. Anyway, it was as good a day as I can remember.

Stupid things to worry about
Ok. I'm a little burned out from work right now.
I found that I am not really paying attention to anything important at all. Instead I have been worried (obsessing) over possibly buying a new Macbook Pro and installing World of Warcraft on it.
Yeah, I know...
Of course it makes it easy to pick up on other people in the world who obviously need better priorities in life just like me.
Case is point; Azeroth has a Metroblog.

Blog-Free Olympics
It looks like the Japanese Olympic Committee is stepping up and banning any athletes from blogging while participating in any Olympic events.
Kyodo: Blogs by Olympics participants to be banned
Personally I think this is pretty stupid. It reeks of a boneheaded management decision In an attempt to control all the information that concerns the Olympic team, they are cutting out a great new channel for PR. Rather than using a tool that appeals to die-hard fans looking for the latest insight, they will cut the wires and push athletes away from thier fans.
Yeah, pretty dumb.

Yes, I believe that is correct...
As if I need more epiphany in my life.
As part of my determination to update things (including this blog) I was going through some sites I am adding to my blogroll. Of course a couple of minute in I find this little gem.
Yongfook: How to have a conversation with an ex-girlfriend in 10 simple steps
While not the most relavent post to my current situation, it does have a certain timeless quality that make one appreciate the twists and turns of life. Or at the very least make you blurt out "oh yeah, that's what I shoulda said..."

Finally
Got into an organization frenzy after cleaning out most of my 2005 crap (all that's left is that tax return glaring at me with beady, beady little eyes). Finally got to finish and polish those little bits on this page that have been bugging me. Tweaked the style sheet a bit and added the event calendar that I've been meaning to do for ages.
Blogroll still need some pruning, but I'm heading to the Tokyo Bloggers meetup tonight so maybe I can get a bit of inspiration to finish it from there.
I have a lot of travel over the next few months planned, but it looks like soo I will be able to pare a lot of that back. I am starting to come to grips with a more stationary lifestyle and I think I am looking forward to it. I joined a gym *finally*, and am starting to think about finally finishing up my apartment design.
Hopefully the blog updates will become more stable and regular, and I still have a few projects I want to go back to. We'll see if this comes through.

Been slacking off
Yeah, slacking off on the blog. Actually I tried to be good, but having a lot of technical problems.
Been playing with new technology on the road (will write more about this later), but they don't call it the bleeding edge for nothing. Heading back to tokyo tomorrow, so hope to normalize a bit then. Got a lot to say. Hopefully I can remember it all.

a bit more done
Woohoo!
Eeyore is back, Harbbot it back. Also got some basic links and icons for RSS, MT and junk.
Next up I still need to put up a blogroll, fav links, and tweak the stylescheet a bit (I hat underlined links).
The new Flickr photobadge is cool. Hope it doesn't get too annoying after a while.

Once more, into the breach
Yes, it's been a while.
I've upgraded to MT 3.2, and am starting to reformat my page. My goal is to have things in some kind of shape by the end of the week. Hopefully we'll see more posts by then as well.
I'm now going to try to use my new Mac mini as my primary blogging tool. I've upgraded most of the software and even have a blogging tool (ecto) on demo. We'll see how things go.
There has certainly been a lot to blog about, and it remains to be seen whether I'll be back-blogging, or just taking it from today.
Well, more to come.
...i hope.

Dr. Lenz, Wacky nutjob of Freakin Genius?
Dr. Karl-Friedrich Lenz, a professor at Aoyama Gakuin University has started a bit of a campaign against Google focusing on the privacy issues associated with Google's new Beta Web Accelerator.
Personally I don't agree with him. I certainly understand why he doesn't like it, but from a practical level I feel that privacy and the internet are almost exclusive ideas. I still do not see the internet as some free, untainted country where enlightened folk can freely share ideas and stick it to the man. It's left over surplus from the cold war that has slowly evolved sending chain letters to your buddies across the country to a multi-billion dollar SPAM/anti-SPAM industry.
People will continue to sacrifice more and more privacy in the name of convenience. Homer (the yellow one, not the dude in a toga) says gimme my porn faster and I'll rummage through my neighbors garbage and tell you what I find.
I think Lenz does a much better job of defending his point of view here.
I agree with a lot here, but in the end I just don't buy it.
However,
In the process of his cause, Dr. Lenz has made a few modifications to his Blog.
The first was to ban Google bots.
His next step was just pretty darn neeto.
He modified his .htaccess file to reroute all traffic coming from a google reference to redirect to Yahoo.
RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$ RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://www.google.co.jp [OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://www.google.com [OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://www.google.de RewriteRule /* http://www.yahoo.com [R,L]
Here's the whole explination.
Lenz Blog: Rewriting requests from Google
So in a nutshell, if anyone sees a link in Google to his site, whenever they clock on it the go to Yahoo instead! That is freaking elegant!
He's already taken the script offline. But man, that's just neeto. I wonder if something like this could be used against comment spam.

Return
So it's now been about five months since this blog went off the air.
A hosting provder knocked it out and various work and personal problems seemed to keep getting in the way of bringing things back up. I hope that most of that is cleared up, but that sounds a bit naive.
I'm running a default template and style sheet. I hope to get things somewhat shaped up in the weeks to come. At least the barebones are back in place so I can start posting again.
Due to poor planning the posts and comments of the past are pretty much gone. As painful as it is, I think I'll just let them go. I have no real plan to change the way I blog, but We'll be starting fresh from today. Sorry for anyone who has commented on my entries in the past. I gave valued your thoughts and input.
Once more into the breach...
